Both by Ring #16 - Back to school and to the massive challenges we face
Featured with Mawuena Tendar and Lara Pagnier, founders @Standard Deviation
Dear community,
In this first edition after the summer break, we want to start right ahead with facing the challenges in front of us. A sixth planetary boundaries has been crossed and human needs are growing everyday around the globe. It is definitely time to integrate our economy into the Doughnut model:
And even aim for more: an economy that is not only capable to reduce negative externalities but create positive impact.
What a difference with the current paradigm… even maybe a deviance! Let’s hear then the founders of Standard Deviation talk about it, they are clearly knowledgeable about what this deviance can be.
This is what BOTH is about: showing how people, companies, investors and institutions can act and play their part in this transition.
The interview
‘Deviants are entrepreneurs who are marginalized because they challenge the status quo, or business as usual.’

You mention the term "regenerative business," what does it mean for you?
Mawuena Tendar: We believe the concept is powerful because it offers a new view and enables companies to strive towards a paradigm shift. We do not have to accept living in a society where companies systematically degrade ecosystems. Business should be part of the solution, and aspire to address the crisis we’re facing and bending our trajectory towards regeneration. It’s a powerful concept to set a new vision, and probably should not be used as a claim.

Integrate diversity and inclusion in your HR policy
Do you know #TechYourPlace? This movement federates dozens of companies and investment funds to move the lines in the tech and startup ecosystem regarding diversity and inclusion.
But how you can efficiently start working on diversity and inclusion in your company?
Here are 4 steps to start with:
1️⃣ identify a person to take charge of diversity and inclusion issues, who may be a director, manager or employee of the Company, dedicated or not to these issues.
2️⃣ implement a training program on inclusive and non-discriminatory practices for all the Company’s managers and employees, particularly in relation to recruitment issues.
3️⃣ implement inclusive recruitment practices and, whenever recruiting, increase the use of structures involved in helping people who are unfavourably affected by or discriminated against in employment;
4️⃣ set-up annual monitoring KPIs and report on them in qualitative and quantitative terms internally and to your main stakeholders.
And if you don’t know how to do all this, meet with the TechYourPlace team and join the movement!
See you next month ✌🏼
